Mukade

“mukade” is an object injection into the public space of an abandoned Shinto shrine during an art residency at Studio Kura, Fukuoka - Itoshima, Japan. - the basic building block is the arm or leg of a japanese giant centipede - scolopendra japonica, which I encountered throughout my stay in Japan. The centipede is an invasive creature into my private space, where I require security, both through a massive figurative representation, and is linked to the uncontrollable fear of turning off the lights in the evening and falling asleep, and thus becomes a model for anxiety, permanent stress and the problem of “letting go” and relaxing, just like an unexpected movement in an unexpected place. The centipede is a parallel to solving life's problems, which if left untouched tend to increase and multiply. At the same time, their solution can and does have a similar course to the anxiety of closing your eyes in the evening.(Fukuoka - Itoshima 2024)
