project “small world” is a complex multimedia installation (unfinished by the end of the residency time) and the main frame looks back in time to growing up and childhood. world defined by boundaries made by parents, family, the closest people..school and daily routine from 7 to 14 years old. elementary school basics. controlled environment. strict rules in the 90s binary world. being a boy or a girl. trying to accommodate the male prospects and trying to avoid being effeminate due to lack of information about how does world look like behind those borders. created and transformed by strict regime, obsolete education system and being dehumanized as a minor… the persona appeared. work “small world” follows this controlled journey ejecting several objects / drawings and videos where persona meets obstacles, obscurities, difficulties, questions in need to be answered and actions needed to be done.

the main “construction” material is paper chain made for christmas house decorations while being post soviet poor family. this chain is supposed to represent “family house warmth” used in escapist philosophy by sustaining the system and acceptance of its rules. staying in the “safe environment” - creating better worlds / other dimensions - escaping from miserable “here and now” reality leads to closed ecosystem impoverished from problems, external inputs and leaves this persona cut off from life - in chains. (#safe imaginary idealized environment)
